Rhetorical Situation

Audience.    PearlTrees attracts a variety of different audiences.  Put simply, PearlTrees is an organizational tool and therefore can be of use to any individual looking to organize their interests, work, or just life in general.  However, because it is more complex than the average application, PearlTrees users must be moderately tech-savvy and comfortable with social media platforms.

Purpose.    The purpose of PearlTrees includes, but is not limited to: organizing your interests; showing your friends what you’re doing through pictures and statements; presenting professional documents and portfolio items; share “social items” such as YouTube videos and web articles.

Context.    Much like The Big Four – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest – PearlTress is a social media platform.  It is a web tool that allows its users to both share content and participate in two-way communication.

Author.   The users of PearlTrees are the content generators, and therefore can be categorized as the authors.  However, the application itself was created by Broceliand, S.A.S.

Genre.    While PearlTrees is both an image and content organizer and sharer, the genre it best fits into is organizational imagery.  The site strives to create “boards” where users can organize, for example, their hobbies or experiences.  For all intents and purposes, PearlTrees is a social site and new form of social media platform.
